The Congress, meanwhile, refrained from naming a chief ministerial candidate before the election, stating that the decision would be made by the party high command after considering feedback from elected legislators.

Among the notable winners was former wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who contested on a Congress ticket and won the Julana seat, defeating BJP’s Captain Yogesh Bairagi by more than 6,000 votes. Phogat, who recently joined the Congress after a prolonged protest against BJP leader and ex-Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over sexual harassment allegations, hailed her victory as a triumph of justice and truth.

Other significant winners included Bhupinder Singh Hooda, a former Congress Chief Minister, who won from the Garhi Sampla-Kiloi constituency. Independent candidate Savitri Jindal also won a seat, further adding to the diversity of the new assembly.

The election campaign focused heavily on local issues, including farmer distress, the Agniveer military recruitment scheme, and the protests against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed BJP workers in New Delhi, celebrating the win and acknowledging the historic nature of the victory. “For the first time, a government has been formed in Haryana after completing two terms of 5 years each. This is a testament to the faith people have in our work,” he said.

Security Measures and Counting Process

To ensure a smooth and secure counting process, 30 companies from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and 12,000 police personnel were deployed at counting centers across the state. Counting of votes, which began at 8 AM on Tuesday, continued throughout the day, with the BJP crossing the majority mark by the afternoon.

The BJP’s success in Haryana, a state often seen as a bellwether for North Indian politics, is expected to boost its prospects in upcoming elections, while the Congress will need to re-strategize to regain lost ground.
